Mai Ali - The Secretary General
By Haya Shash
Secretary General of OISMUN 2013! Sounds legit, doesn’t it? Well, let me tell you impressions can be deceiving. As a colleague, I can go on telling you how much of a hard-worker she is, and how her “only weakness is perfectionism.” But of course we all are, aren’t we? But as a friend, I decided to take you through a journey behind the scenes of MUN. Mai Ali sure knows how to put on that poker face resembling a pure Workaholic, but she sure can’t hide her clumsiness. Seriously people, who leaves their bag and their laptop in a taxi on their way to school? She can easily act in control and definitely gets work done, yet she still has this “baby like” attitude engraved within her. Mai Ali might seem “naive”, but she never took part in an MUN conference and didn’t receive a “best delegate” or “best judge” award. We will keep electing a Secretary General for years to come, but we most certainly can never replace a “Mai Ali”.
Sara Sedky - Deputy Secretary General
Complexity is a simple word that describes her. As much as she could seem serious and firm, she is also very jovial. Yes, she’s got her own style that makes her the “party animal”. She can manage to balance both extremes of being extremely serious with her work, yet can manage to have lots of FUN on her Thursday nights. One thing she enjoys most is her amazing talent of giving animal names to describe people the instant she sees them. She easily finds resemblance between all of us “her so called friends” and different types of animals. So, stay alert and keep a close eye on which animal you’ll soon resemble during this OISMUN conference . Don’t get tempted by her shiny silky black short hair that makes her look so French, or don’t let her actual French accent fool you. Deep down she’ll bedazzle you with her strength in putting all in control, while managing to add a touch of joy and laughter to the ordinary afternoon.
Sara Awad - President of the General Assembly
By Layla Ghaleb
Sara Awad. A name that has been repetitively recognized by so many teachers; every time they start mentioning other students as an example, we know for sure they’ll refer to Sara Awad. A MAJOR ‘ACER’! Here it goes: Math 7/7, Bio 7/7, History 7/7, English 7/7... Ok you got the idea. “TouchWood” we say in Egypt. So it’s a major nerd we’re talking about here, you definitely don’t want to mess with her. You’ve probably pictured her with the big old glasses and the messy hair, but NO! If you think you’ll beat her socially, you have definitely not seen her shuffle! She has the right recipe for acing her IB exams as well as looking all good for every event. You know the “play hard, work harder” quote? Yes! It is her motto! We’re looking at a typical perfectionist here; an always ‘I didn’t study but I got the full mark!’ student, old MUNer, charity volunteer, organizer, head of the community and service club and last but not least: AN AMAZING COOK! What are the odds, ha? Yep, to your surprise, this innovative woman works at the best cupcakery in Egypt. However, all of this didn’t come naturally, by now it’s crystal clear and obvious that she is the most hard-working, determined, perseverant and well focused person around. If there’s someone the school looks up to, yeah well, guess who – definitely our Sara Awad.
Laila Tarek - Undersecretary General
Guess when you’re young, first impressions are everything. I met Laila at our school’s carnival back in kindergarten. That day, something told me I came across an exceptional person. In fact, it was the start of a genuinely harmonious friendship. After fourteen years of friendship, I can honestly say that Laila has quite a controversial personality. On one hand, she is an incredible hard-worker, one of the few I know. She somehow manages to put on one of the straightest faces when it comes to work. But, even if this might come as a surprise to you; on the other hand Laila is incredibly humorous and with a such a busy social life. So yes, she’s got the best of both worlds. So, here’s a little piece of advice to all the chairs and delegates on how to deal with Laila: do most certainly stay on task and be punctual! Take those words for granted, and I promise you’ll regret it. As a close friend, I gave myself the right to say: not a day in my life have I regretted knowing Laila. She might be extremely supportive and indisputably nice but that doesn’t give you the chance to mess with her. “Laila Tarek is the most focused, organized and efficient person alive! She also happens to be very helpful and friendly. So, if you have any questions you know who to go to. In fact, her kindness and warm heart is sure to put a smile on any face. However, don’t take that angel face for granted; she’s one of those people you don’t want to fury. Seriously, DO NOT get her on her nerves or it’ll be hurricane Sandy all over again. ” – Farida Banany.
Layla Ghaleb - Head of Media
« In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different » is the best description we can give our OISMUN newspaper’s editor in Chief Layla Ghaleb. With her will power and determination you can surely believe, with no doubt, she will complete any task given to her in the best way possible. Not only is she a hard worker but she is also the true “Chanel” of her generation. But what is the secret behind this unorthodox personality? Well it’s easy, like all the brilliant minds that we have encountered over the years she is simply a once in a generation brilliant, creative, strong mind. Not everyone can put boundaries between the time to work and the time to play or even make work fun, however for Layla it seems almost natural. With a smile always drawn on her face and strong faith in what she does she makes any team excited to work and follow her light till the end of the road. She is one of those people that knows better than saying “no” or “I can’t do it.” She’s a “joker,” the one card that never looses. That is not all, in addition to being a perfectionist and someone we can always depend on, she is also a natural artist, with killer dance moves. Being outstanding in her academic work does not stop her from being the most talented dancer at school. She is best known for her recent performance in the Oasis 2012 carnival. Her performance in the talent show portrays how creative she can be, beginning with her choice of music and ending with her original dance moves. Its so obvious that winning the award in the talent show was not her central achievement, yet the fun, and enjoyment that comes from working hard and achieving success is more rewarding to her. Natural talent and hard work are just a little part of the many qualities she has. But one we all must admire is her big heart and her unlimited ability to be kind and friendly to everyone. That is always reflected in her daily life by being helpful and kind to all who need it. We can also see it with her many extracurricular activities outside school that involve various charity organizations and being devoted to helping others and investing in her community. I can go on and on since her qualities are endless, but let me just say this, we can be assured that one day we will be seeing her name in newspaper headlines either for her work in world peace or great achievements in her field of work. It is certain that she will be a woman we will hear a lot about. And with all this, one can only say one thing about Layla….This Generation’s Wonder-woman.
